The President, Sheikh Khalifa, sent a cable to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, congratulating him on his party general election victory. State news agency Wam also reported that similar greetings were dispatched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Mr Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party swept to victory on Thursday, securing an emphatic win over the Congress party and other challengers. On Friday India’s election commission confirmed the BJP secured 303 seats out of 543 in the Lok Sabha, or lower house of parliament, giving it an even bigger majority than five years ago and defying predictions of a dip in popularity.
